Post by Professor Sedgwick on Aug 19, 2008 14:07:22 GMT
Professor Sedgwick strolled into the empty hall, his long, midnight blue cloak billowing behind him as he moved. The headmaster paused when he reached the top table and spun on his heel, admiring the vastness and grandeur of the hall, which was dressed for the occasion.
The four long tables of the Hogwarts houses were empty for the moment but would soon be filled with food and drink for the students to enjoy. Above these table hung the house colours and candles floated in the air.
Looking up Sedgwick was greeted with the glorious sight of a cloudless night sky, the stars twinkling at him. He sighed happily and moved to his seat, a large sturdy oak chair, in the centre of the top table.
Once seated Professor Sedgwick smiled and clasped his hands together on his lap, awaiting the arrival of the students.

Adela reached up and took the hood of her cloak down as she entered the Great Hall, noticing that she was one of the first to arrive besides the staff themselves. She pulled her hair from out of the cloak and shook it loose, posing somewhat as she did so.
Her eyes quickly scanned the Slytherin table but unfortunately she saw no-one there of any interest and so was forced to go over and sit on her own, content in the knowledge that she would not be alone for too long.

Rachella came walked into the great hall. This was her first time and saw student around. Walking toward the Slytherin table. She pasted the whole table until she found a spot at the end. Taking a seat she pulled out a book and turned to the chapter she ended on.

Walking into the Great Hall Haydn let his eyes roam up and down the Slytherin table. It seemed that some first years had already entered the hall and had seated themselves at house tables. There was one girl in particular who interested Haydn, for she was the only first year to enter and seat herself at the Slytherin table.
'She must be confident that she's going to be placed in Slytherin, and yet she's sat there reading as though she isn't bothered!' Haydn mused, remembering how he'd been similarly unfazed by the Great Hall when he had first entered it in his first year. He considered going over to the girl and introducing himself but decided against this as she was nothing to do with him.
He moved over to where Adela was sitting, noting how once more he was going to sit with her, just like in The Leaky Cauldron. Haydn made a mental note to make sure he was earlier in future so that she would have to choose to sit with him, if indeed the Slytherin girl wanted to.
"Good evening Miss Meliflua" he whispered in her ear as he sat down next to her.
(((OOC - Rachella - as a first year I presume we'll roleplay you being sorted, even though you know you'll be put in Slytherin)))

Hepsy was hunched over as she shuffled slowly into the Great Hall. She wasn't feeling very well at all, in fact she wasn't sure she'd make it through the sorting without being ill in front of everyone.
Realising how embarrassing that would be for her Hepsy turned to her friend, Emma, and whispered, "I'm going to ask a Professor for the password to our common room and then go and lie down. I'll see you later."

As Adela has suspected, she wasn't alone for very long. There was a constant stream of students entering the hall now and so she turned to observe the Professor's table, interested to see who had returned and, if there were any, what the new Professors looked like.
So, because she wasn't watching, Adela was a little surprised when she felt more than heard someone whispering in her ear. The persons breath sent a shudder down her spine, a shudder which she wasn't entirely sure she managed to surpress.
It took a few moments but Adela finally recognised the voice to be Haydn's. Pretending that he hadn't given her a little shock and as cooly as she could manage Adela said, "Why hello there, Haydn."
With a slight smirk on her face Adela turned to face the Slytherin, "I see you couldn't resist my company once again."

Emma smiled kindly at her friend.
"Ok, go and have a nap or something." She answered, starting to walk slowly and a little apprehensively into the Great Hall. Yes, she’d been here many times before but she didn’t like to walk alone into a crowd of people.
"I hope you feel better soon Heps!" Emma called after her friend, but Hepsy had gone.

Post by Rollo Armstrong on Aug 20, 2008 19:32:20 GMT
Rollo had been quite early in arriving to the Great Hall and was now engaged in conversation with some of his fellow Gryffindors. Some of them were bragging about the girls they’d been with over the summer. At the mention of one particular girl Rollo chuckled under his breath.
"Oh dear Gary! She’s a..." and just as he was about to say what the particular girl was he thought he heard someone shouting a name, 'Heps' was what he’d heard. He turned just as he was finishing his sentence, accidentally catching the eye of a Slytherin girl as he did so, "Slut" he concluded.
Rollo's eyes then roamed the entrance to the hall but he saw no sign of Hepsy, 'She's always in my head.' He thought.

Adela was peering around the vast room, trying not to look interested in Haydn. After doing this for a little while she was just about to turn her attention back to him when a Gryffindor caught her eye. She vaguely recognised the boy, he was in some of her classes, and what he mouthed at her shocked her so much she exclaimed, "Oh!"
"Did you see that?" She twisted round to ask Haydn. "That... that... brat just called me a slut!"

Haydn was watching Adela out of the corner of his eye as she blatantly tried to avoid talking to him, he hoped she was just teasing but he wasn't sure. When she turned to tell him what had just occurred he immediately moved round on the bench to get a better view of the person who'd insulted Adela.
"Where?" He snarled, his temper flaring unreasonably.
